Padding Protects Unwary Texters
By Kate Crowley
I really hope this story is a joke. Apparently a pilot scheme has been launched in Brick Lane to protect pedestrians from injuries caused by walking into lampposts. The area has the highest number of ‘walking and texting’ injuries.
A study carried out by 118 118 found that one in ten people has hurt themselves while focused on their mobile phone screen. In other news, one in ten people are clumsy buffoons.
The charity Living Streets is so concerned that they have teamed up with the directory enquiries service to wrap up the nation’s lampposts. If the Brick Lane pilot scheme is successful then the concept will be rolled out in Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.
