Dance Charge II : Kinetic Boogaloo

By Ernest Doku

You have to give it to Orange for successfully crowbarring their brand into Glastonbury music festival with a seamless flair. First there was the wind powered charger tent allowing muddy revellers to boost their phones, then they are letting Kelly Osbourne video blog her (carefully censored) exploits on the Orange site, but witness the culmination of their synergy. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Orange Dance Charger.

Cast your eyes westward to the wondrous promotional photograph. As the beautiful lady uncomfortably doing the mashed potato (or climbing an invisible ladder) is demonstrating, this device not only checks blood pressure but allows party goers to wave their hands in the air and charge phone batteries like they just don’t care.

The makers, GotWind (Best. Name. Ever.) cite the Dance Charge as “the result of months of research into alternate, sustainable energy sources to power mobile phones during summer music festivals.” Kudos to GotWind for cornering that extremely specific, hopefully lucrative market!

This addition to any newly-converted Jay-Z fan’s ensemble is velcro-welded to the bicep, and converts their kinetic bounding or melancholy swaying into electric energy. This can then be used once back in the refuge of their tents to recharge any handset.

Whoa! Put that credit card back in your wallet…this item is not for just any dancer! This charger is merely a prototype for what we will all be wearing one day, and is reserved for a select few movers and shakers at this year’s festival in a field from the 27-29th of June.

Don’t worry if you are too cool to groove, as Orange is determined to embarrass you with an ‘interactive Dance Charging Man!’ Simply ask and he will dance for you, charging your phone with his unsettling gyrations. Whether his dance is the Lambada, known as the ‘Forbidden Dance,’ they do not say. It is safe to assume that it is.
