The INQ¹ Facebook Phone Is…Released On 3!

By Ernest Doku

Well, if ever there was a phone to fly off the shelves in time for Xmas, it is the socially aware INQ¹, only on 3 and out today!

New-kid-on-the-block INQ brings the Web 2.0 experience to the mobile phone, with the INQ¹ offering one button access to user content filled sites like Windows Live Messenger, Facebook and social music platform Last.fm.

With instant messaging support and the ability to directly upload photos taken with its 3.2 megapixel camera, the INQ¹ finally gives Facebook addicts the chance to leave the house!

The ‘live contact book’ features merges your friends contacts details with their Facebook profiles, meaning their online status and self-indulgent photos are constantly updated and beamed to your INQ¹.

As for the tariffs on 3, the INQ¹ remains very price-friendly.  It will be available for free on a pay monthly contract from £15 per month, which offers unlimited Facebook, Skype, Messenger and web access plus 75 minutes of cross-network calls, unlimited texts (kids love texts), unlimited e-mail and unlimited calls to other 3 customers.

£20 per month gives you the above, but with 200 cross-network minutes instead of just 75.

As for Pay As You Go, the INQ¹ will cost £79.99, whilst net packages will be available from £5 per month.

Kevin Russell, 3 UK’s CEO, said: “3’s own exclusive handsets have already delivered the first unlimited data tariffs, the first free, open Instant Messenger services and the first fully-integrated Skype-enabled phone. INQ¹ takes these services, and more, to offer a uniquely powerful and competitively priced mass market internet phone. INQ¹ on 3 offers you the most sociable phone on the most sociable network.”

It’s out now, and I’m very close to getting one, to keep tabs on my status updating mates if nothing else!

Look out for INQ¹ deals on Omio in a minute…actually now!

Sky Mobile TV Now Available on 3 Mobile Network

By Ernest Doku

3 subscribers in the United Kingdom can now enjoy a selection of premium Sky output on their mobile phones, as the television service can now be streamed over the air on the 3G network.

Separate from the existing ‘Planet 3′ media service for customers, Sky are offering this for either a monthly fee of £5, or a daily rate of £1.

This now allows customers a choice of live streamed content over the air to their handsets, from channels including Sky News, Sky Sports, CNN and The Box.

There is also load of looped mobile content, offering the best bits of Sky’s other channels to be viewed at any time. Sky Mobile TV is also available in the UK through Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile, with the company claiming over 200,000 subscribers across the networks.

BSkyB General manager of mobile David Gibbs commented: “We are excited that 3 UK customers can now watch the latest breaking news from the RTS award winning Sky News; the best of the FA Premier League, UEFA Champions League, Premiership Rugby Union or Test Match cricket from Sky Sports, 3 UK customers need not miss a minute of the action.”

Sounds great, yes? However, the only setback is the fact that the service is being offered by Sky rather than 3 themselves, which means data charges can be incurred whilst viewing. A safe bet is to purchase an unlimited Internet add-on if you haven’t already got one, at a cost of around £5.

This means that all your web downloading will be covered, and no nasty surprise bills in the post!

Not sure if the whole ‘TV on the go’ thing will necessarily catch on. The Nokia N96 touted BBC’s iPlayer and bite-size shows as a reason to purchase, but all of that online multimedia content is often ignored in favour of chucking some favourite movies and music on a memory card and watching those.

Perhaps looped videos of the ‘new’ Gladiators and watching Ross Kemp speak in a gruff voice to ex-cons could be the content that changes everything.

Or not.

Samsung Light Edge Pink: New Beauty Announced On 3 Network!

By Ernest Doku

3 UK has recently announced a few new additions to their network before the year’s end, and they are filling out an already impressive roster with something for the ladies!

The Samsung Light Edge Pink is a gorgeous little slider handset, taking a cue from the successful U900 Soul as far as looks are concerned.

The similarities go beyond the cosmetic as the Light Edge also inherits the touch controls of its bigger brother, making it an impressvely specced handset at a mid-range price point.

It has a 3 megapixel camera (as opposed to the Soul’s 5 megapixel snapper), but is equally ultra-slim at only 13mm, managing to also maintain the 3G connectivity and multimedia playback.

Due for launch later in November, and exclusively pretty in pink on 3, the Samsung Light Edge looks to be a handset to pique the interest of those who love form and function in equal measure.

INQ¹ Facebook Phone In The Flesh!

By Ernest Doku

We were just about to pull the big Omio ON/OFF switch for the day, when Shiny Shiny swooped in with an eleventh hour video showing the new social networking phone from 3, the INQ¹ (which we in the office have renamed ‘Inky’ after initially mistaking the ¹ for an ‘i’)!

Yummy! (Sorry, that remark is directed at the phone, although she is also an attractive lady.)

Oh, and it is pronounced ‘INQ’ as in ‘ink,’ not ‘INQ’ as in ’silly name.’

3 To Launch ‘Facebook Phone’ On Thursday

By Ernest Doku

The first handset from new manufacturer INQ is set to be announced on the 3 network this Thursday. The phone is centred around social networking on the go, and the manufacturer is in fact owned by Hutchinson, 3’s parent company.

3 is targeting the Web 2.0 savvy consumer who wants to spend their time online on their phone, but cannot afford the high-end mobiles that make browsing easy like the iPhone or Blackberry Bold.

It also seamlessly integrates your Facebook experience with your phone, as contacts and Facebook friends merge and texts sit side by side with Instant Messages. It is also clever enough to work as a USB modem when attached to a PC, giving a truly always connected experience!

It is earmarked to be at a very competitive PAYG pricepoint for web loving teens, with rumours it could be as low as £99!

Further INQ handsets will be launched throughout 2009, both on 3 as well as the other service providers. Watch this space for an Omio review!
