A Storm Brews Around The Blackberry Thunder…

By Ernest Doku

Hot on the heels of the leak over screen girth, comes sexy new images of the Blackberry Thunder showcasing the multimedia functionality. Thanks to BlackberrySync, shots of music playback and the landscape movie view have broken cover, making this look like another concerted effort to attract the casual user to a RIM handset.

Complete with a high resolution TFT display, a redesigned user interface to make full use of the touchscreen and a music store similar in operation to iTunes in the offing, this phone looks to have the combination of the technical muscle and the brand awareness to pose a threat in the smartphone market.

All these leaked images and detailed spec info, and the Blackberry Thunder (also known to operate under the alias of the 9500) hasn’t even been officially announced! What is known is it may well be a Vodafone exclusive handset upon release in the UK, a rumour which makes sense given the success story of o2’s new baby.

RIM has become awfully lax of late, all these impressive promo details on the Thunder slipping out, one would think they were trying to pour water on the launch plans of a certain competitor…

Will the BlackBerry Thunder have a Higher Res Screen than the iPhone?

By Kate Crowley
BlackBerry Thunder

It’s still unconfirmed, but the news leaked from the House of RIM is that the BlackBerry Thunder will have a 360×480 screen, compared to the iPhone’s 320×480. More news: the official model number is the BlackBerry 9500 and it’ll be running OS 4.7.0 (the BlackBerry Bold runs OS 4.6). Feel free to print off the above picture (from Boy Genius Report) and put it on your wall next to that poster of Megan Fox.

BlackBerry Thunder, Hear My Cry

By Kate Crowley

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes: the touchscreen BlackBerry (codenamed “Thunder”) will apparently launch in Q3 of this year. It’s 100% touchscreen (no keyboard, thank you very much) and has only 4 physical keys. These are, unsurprisingly, the send/end keys, the BlackBerry menu key and the back key.

The Boy Genius Report claims that the BlackBerry Thunder will launch as a lifetime exclusive on Vodafone and Verizon. This is big news for Verizon fans because it’ll be the first time the provider has an exclusive handset. However, if Verizon fail to meet the sales targets set by BlackBerry then they’ll lose their exclusive deal.

I’m looking forward to seeing overweight business men in Savile Row suits hunched over their BlackBerry Thunder, trying to access their emails but failing because their fat fingertips take up half the screen with each touch.

BGR have a mock-up of the BlackBerry Thunder, but here’s our artist’s rendition of what it might look like:
