Mimique Concept Phone - Please, Someone Make This!

By Kate Crowley

Mimique concept phone

The Mimique is a completely touchscreen mobile phone focused on skins and downloads. It’s completely customisable and uses open source software. Described by the designer as a “response to feature-heavy cell phones that look more like PDAs than phones”, the Mimique combines an old-school design with brand spankin’ new technology. It’s apparently going to use the Android OS and I’m apparently going to buy one in every colour if someone ever makes them.

The EMC – Not Helping to Thin the Herd

By Kate Crowley
EMC 1

The EMC (stands for “easy mobil (yes, ‘mobil’) calling”) concept mobile phone is designed to make calling easier for technologically-challenged people. There are only four buttons, each of which corresponds to a separate phone number. If you only have four numbers you want to call, this is the handset for you. Personally, I don’t think we should pander to the needs of the weak. Give them an iPhone and lock them in a room for three hours. If you can’t answer a call at the end of the time you are banished to the Middle Ages.

Cuuso Concept Phone

By Kate Crowley
Cuuso 2

Cuuso, the Japanese concept company, have updated their Cuusoo concept phone. It introduces an innovative idea: the user can detach the screen while making a call. Judging from the photo below, you can also turn the phone into a spade or a fly’s face.

The Cuusoo concept phone was designed by Marimo-san, a Japanese-based designer. It’s a good idea so hopefully one of the handset manufacturers will take up the design. We could see more handset/lampost related injuries though. Better bring out the protective padding.
