LG GD910 Watch Phone First Official Pics

By Peter Ross

lg-mofo

So here we are, the first official pictures of the LG GD910, pretty much to  be expected except for the shocking song choice, Celine Dion! Come on LG you guys are supposed to be stylish.

The phone is very elegant, even if it wasn’t a mobile device I’m sure many people would love to waer it on their wrists. The watch has a curved tempered glass face, high quality metal casing and is a mere 13.9mm thick. Apart from being incredibly stylish the LG GD910 has some impressive features including full touch screen, video calling and voice recognition. The LG GD910 ’s 7.2 Mbps 3G HSDPA compatibility, enables high-speed data transmission and video phone calls using the built-in camera.

I think the biggest selling point for this phone is the gimmick factor. Every grown man likes to think that they are actually James Bond and this phone lets them realise this fantasy. However as the trend for mobile phones is for bigger screens, keyboards and video playing the phone with its smallish screen will be unsuitable for many.

LG Prada II Comes With A Little Added Glamour…

By Ernest Doku

Seems like the LG Prada II (a.k.a. LG KF900) will have a little something extra when it launches later this month, as their event last night revealed that it will be fashionably accessorised with a stylish Bluetooth watch called ‘The Link’.

Taking the minimalist design of the original as a jumping-off point, the Prada II has added a tidy slide out 4-row keyboard, a 5 megapixel Schneider-Kreuznach camera, Wi-Fi and a microSD card slot for extra memory.

Factoring in this sexy little watch, allowing you to see full text messages and incoming calls on your wrist whilst still looking good enough to wear, makes the Prada II setup much more of a head-turner than initially thought…

UPDATE: Sorry, some people thought that LG and Prada were some kid of charity, giving away Bluetooth phones and enjoying the smiles of children. Well, they aren’t. The Prada II will cost around €600, whilst the ‘Link’ (LG-LBA-T950) comes in at a cool €299. To be this fancy costs a lot…

LG Prada II Fashionably Late, Now On For A November Release Date!

By Ernest Doku

Electric Pig has managed to coax a little gem of information out of LG regarding the Prada II, a keyboard-packing remix of their highly successful fashion phone.

Originally earmarked to grace catwalks this October, they report that a spokesperson became deliberately vague regarding a release: “It might be this month, it might be Christmas”. They soon cleared it up, however, confirming the Prada II will indeed be out at the tail end of November.

This delay may have been a wise move considering the avalanche of handsets falling upon us at the moment, a brief respite might get the Prada II a few more column inches in the glossies than it would have.

Going up against supermodel snappers du jour like the Samsung Pixon, Sony Ericsson C905 and Nokia N96 at the height of their success would not be wise…

Ericsson: 20 Megapixel And Hi-Def Video Recording Cameraphones By 2012

By Ernest Doku

You think that the battle of the cameraphones is hot right now with the Sony Ericsson C905, LG Renoir, Samsung Pixon and the Samsung i8510 INNOV8 all vying for 8 megapixel supremacy?

In as little as four years we could see 20 megapixel snappers with full HD video capture as the norm, according to Ericsson! Just imagine the quality of YouTube gig uploads…and You’ve Been Framed will never be the same when I see 1080p cameraphone clips of an old lady fall off a trampoline. Can’t wait!

The slide from a recent press conference regarding the future of mobile technology also predicts insanely high XGA screen resolutions of 1024×768 (as opposed to the iPhone’s 480 x 320), and 1Ghz CPUs! That’s more powerful than my computer at home…

We would say that it was all the stuff of fantasy, if Engadget hadn’t rightly noted that there are already phones knocking at the doors of these specifications…in the Far East of course. 10 megapixel camera phones…in 2006? 1024×480 resolution 3 inch touchscreen phones?

The Japanese must find our excitement at phones like the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 very quaint, as they order sushi and watch high definition cable TV on theirs…

LG KF300 Mobile Phone Released, Exclusive To Orange!

By Ernest Doku

LG released a slick clamshell handset today, the KF300. It’s a refreshingly minimalist handset, all smooth lines and flowing design.

It weighs a mere 96g and is only 16.2mm thick, making it small enough to forget is in your pocket, but more than cool enough to bring out at any occasion!

The phone is certainly made for ease of use, with ‘hot keys’ tailored to provide quick access to frequently used functions like the contacts list, text message inbox and alarm clock. Another plus point is the font size on the screen can be scaled up for easier reading of incoming messages.

The key features are not GPS, Wi-Fi, or HSDPA but rather an MP3 player, Bluetooth support and a 2 megapixel camera. Far more practical to the average user, rather than someone heavily into their gadgets and gizmos.

The LG KF300 is an exclusive handset to the Orange network, and is available from £15 per month on a 24 month contract. So if you are more interested in receiving calls and texts than receiving digital TV on your handset, the KF300 may just be the phone for you!

LG KF900 Prada II : Can It Provide Both Style And Substance?

By Ernest Doku

More often than not, the “fashion” phone is somewhat of a misnomer, as the new flashy handset may look great, but is all too often equipped with a feature set that can only be described as distinctly last season…

However, LG’s sequel to the popular Prada handset seems set to buck that trend, parading down the runway with a rarely-seen combination of beauty and brains that is bound to get tongues wagging!

The LG KF900 Prada II retains the touchscreen interface and minimalist design of the original, whilst at the same time modernising the phone by adding a lovely QWERTY keyboard on its back and upgrading the camera from 2 to 5 megapixels.

Connectivity is definitely in right now, and the addition of 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity prove that the Prada II is certainly on trend as far as web browsing goes!

Just goes to show that a smartphone doesn’t have to look like a slab of wrought iron to contain all the newest technology, let’s hope that this move in the designer phone market isn’t just a fad like encrusting them with rhinestones (man, that was ugly)…

The KF900 is set for a Q4 2008 release, and will cost a reassuringly expensive £475, if we are still using money rather than bartering with goats and children by then.

LG KC780 - 8 Megapixels And Proud Of It!

By Ernest Doku

Amidst all of the fanfare regarding the new breed of 8 megapixel cameraphones like the Sony Ericsson C905 and the Samsung i8510, comes a great little number under the radar from LG…

The KC780 will be released in the UK at the end of November, and is a powerhouse as far as snapping photos is concerned. A veritable waif at 13.9 mm thick, the KC780 is a slider handset with a 2.4″ QVGA screen, Bluetooth v2.1 and all sorts of PC connectivity that turns it into a wireless webcam!

It may not have 3G connectivity, but it is still certainly a handset for the snap happy crowd to consider this Xmas.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1: Confirmed On Orange And O2 At Carphone Warehouse

By Ernest Doku

Sony Ericsson’s biggest new handset in many years, the Xperia X1, will be in Carphone Warehouse in the next couple of weeks, available on the O2 and Orange networks.

The device will hopefully be on £45 per month tariffs for free! The slightly more pricey option is to buy the handset on prepay for £600.

Kinda know why they weren’t so eager to shout the cost of from the rooftops, 600 quid is some serious money! Considering the bells and whilstles in the Xperia, it sounds about right.

The big question, is it wise to release such an opulent phone at a time when most manufacturers are focusing on cheap and cheerful solutions like the LG KP500 and Nokia 5800?

T-Mobile G1 vs. Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Review : Battle of the Text Machines!

By Ernest Doku

We at Omio are more likely to get raw footage of a unicorn fighting a dragon, but lucky Dutch folks at Jouw Mobiel have managed to get their hands on the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X1! It’s a pretty detailed Xperia review (translated via Google), frequently comparing it to the similarly specced HTC Touch Pro.

They came away fairly impressed with the head-turning form factor and sturdy construction, but think that the keyboard hasn’t enough give on it, and that the panel interface is underwhelming after the sexy TouchFLO offered on the HTC device. Could the delays to the Xperia’s release date make it seem dated when compared to the LG Renoir and Windows Mobile brother-in-arms Samsung Omnia?

Thankfully not, as the phone is far more luxurious, more like a fancy PC than merely a mobile. It does have a lot of flashing lights and gimmicks to distract…but underneath is a very powerful machine, more than capable for either business or pleasure.

As if that wasn’t enough, they decide to chuck in a quick T-Mobile G1 and Xperia X1 comparison! Hardly a fair fight, but they focus on the internet and e-mail capabilities to see the best phone for surfing on the go. Our favourite translation? “The Xperia X1 is a true piece of art in comparison to the dusty look of the T-Mobile G1.” Dusty? That’s a bit harsh, but we know what you mean!

Just seeing two awesome forthcoming handsets occupying the same space is enough to excite us immensely!

Nokia 5800 XpressMedia To Miss Xmas?

By Ernest Doku

In our excitement over the new touchscreen Nokia 5800, we neglected to realise that the release date was not one of November as was initially rumoured, but rather a 2009 launch in the US and UK.

According to a Reuters report, the emerging markets will be the first to benefit from the phone’s arrival, with India, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Russia and Spain to all see the Comes With Music equipped phone by the end of the year. What is usually considered the larger markets of the UK, America and most of Europe will have to go without…

Thinking about it, this is a very shrewd move. Apple did the exact opposite, launching in the established Western territories first, then turning their attention to countries like India and Russia, where the lack of appealing network subsidies meant a far later release. Heck, Russia hasn’t even got an iTunes store yet, Apple has plenty to straighten out before forging links in foreign markets.

Nokia has years of experience in precisely these areas, selling tens of millions of phones in emerging sector over the years. By releasing the 5800 quickly, and at a far cheaper price point than the iPhone, they stand to make far more of an impact in these areas.

“The phone is competitively priced and Nokia’s competitive advantage is in emerging markets. When putting two and two together it’s logical they start the roll-out from emerging markets,” said analyst Neil Mawston from Strategy Analytics.

However, to lose out on a festive period which will see the powerhouses of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, the Samsung Pixon, the LG KC910 Renoir and T-Mobile’s Android-powered G1 poised to force their way into people’s stockings, Nokia’s 5800 may not get a look in come 2009.

Who’s to say they won’t have an even more snazzy touch phone waiting in the wings by then?
