Samsung i8510 Innov8 Now Available!

By Ernest Doku

Great news for the more patient amongst us, a bit of an upset for Omnia and Tocco early adopters (sorry Ryan!) as the 8 megapixel behemoth Samsung i8510 is now available on Orange!

Despite having gone through more name changes than career jet fuel abuser P.Diddy, the phone formerly known as both the Innov8 and the Primera is finally available in both 8 and 16GB servings, with all manner of awesomeness including a 2.8 inch TFT screen, built in GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and superb video playback.

Available exclusively on Orange (for now…), the deals are actually pretty good for such a feature-rich handset, with £30 a month getting you 400 minutes and unlimited texts. Granted, the phone costs you fifty bones with this tariff, but after a few months you can downgrade to a super cheap deal. This means you can show off with the best specced phone on the market at a bargain basement price!

Only question, why continue to call it the Innov8 in all territories apart from the UK, the only one that would really get the play on words?

Samsung Primera Officially Becomes INNOV8, Coming Courtesy Of Carphone Warehouse

By Ernest Doku

It’s a day of vapourphones becoming a reality as the Samsung i8510 INNOV8 (the artist formerly known as the Samsung Primera) also gets a release window in the United Kingdom of early September 2008.

This powerhouse has the most impressive phone specs wise in a long time, offering bleeding edge hardware in a pretty sexy shell. With 8 or 16GB of memory, 2.8 inch screen and playback for all video formats including DivX and MP4, this might just be the number one phone for movies on the go!

Only announced a couple of weeks ago, it is a surprisingly fast turnaround for a company which usually tantalises us for ages before unleashing their handsets. For that matter, where on Earth is the Samsung Omnia? Oh, it’s in stock SIM free on some sites? That’s what I’m talking about!

8. Megapixel. Camera. This is why we will be holding out for the INNOV8. People don’t use their mobile phone cameras very often, simply as they aren’t a good replacement for their Cybershot. With the INNOV8,  the all-in-one media device is that much closer to being a reality! Look at it, that is completely mistakable for a camera from the back.

Carphone Warehouse is your port of call if looking to pick up this little number, fortunately the pricing and tariffs are still very much under wraps for the moment. With all of these touchscreen mobiles floating around, there are bound to be some major casualties in this ‘iPhone vs. the World’ war.

Hopefully this top-end device will not be one of them.

LG Pumps Up The Volume With Dolby Mobile

By Ernest Doku

LG, currently on the crest of a wave of success in the mobile phone market, seems to have picked the right time to make some new friends by inking a deal with audio afficionados Dolby.

The Korean manufacturer intends to incorporate Dolby Mobile into their phones, which means they will produce improved sound quality, have fancy equalizer settings…that’s about it really.

Samsung have already ventured into similarly ear-friendly territory, announcing 5.1 surround sound on the Primera INNOV8 and Bang & Olufsen ICEPower audio on the F400, amazing tech which unfortunately may never get the usage it deserves.

Perhaps it’s due to the lengthy encoding process, but putting music or a movie on one’s phone is never the impulse decision before leaving the house that it should be. Still, it is good news as multimedia smartphones continue to break new ground, rivalling dedicated music players.

LG CEO Dr. Skott Ahn was understandably exuberant: “Being the first company to incorporate Dolby Mobile technology into handsets for the global market reinforces LG’s role as a leader in the mobile industry and in multimedia phones,” he gushed before posing for an Idiot Toys-worthy photo.

It may be as early as the end of this year before we see LG phones with this new stuff embedded within. Higher fidelity sound pollution on public transport, oh joy.

And to think that a mere eight years ago, Snake on a Nokia and custom monophonic ringtones were seen as the height of technological advancement…

The Samsung Omnia Is Coming! Praise Be!

By Ernest Doku

Let it be known that Omio has some pretty big sway in the phone business. A mere 24 hours ago we voiced our issue with the Omnia’s lateness to market and now Samsung have announced European launch dates, complete with a free stuff giveaway!

We forgive you, Samsung. Just try not to let it happen again.

GSMArena has news on an Italian launch as soon as next week, with other European territories to follow. Not only that, but the strange relationship between Samsung and Microsoft continues as preordering an Omnia nets you a free XBox 360! Their frequent dalliances are often caught by the media, and this latest hook up does nothing to dispel rumours like these. One can but dream…

So the 8GB Omnia is available for pre-order at an unsubsidised cost of 499 Euros, which isn’t too bad factoring in a free console.  The touch driven super-handset has novel features like an optical mouse and a smile detecting 5 megapixel camera. The wealth of impressive stats gives it a much needed presence in a tough crowd. Would’ve placed an order already, if they didn’t go and leak the Primera…
