Animoto iPhone App and Qik and Gordon Ramsay

By Peter Ross

Animoto is an web application that turns your photos into professional looking videos. It’s really simple to use: you upload your photos to the Animoto web interface, choose the order of the photos, then you choose a song. You can either upload your own song or choose from Animoto’s music library. It’s like a slide show but on steroids. Here’s one I made for Omio and the HTC Touch Pro phone.

Here’s another one I made of a fancy dress party I went to. It’s pretty hard to explain why everyone there was dressed like Pat Butcher from Eastenders but they were and here is the resulting Animoto video.

As you can see Animoto is a really fun little application that is easy gives impressive results. So it is great news for iPhone users that the company has now released an Animoto iPhone App. Now you can make videos on the go from your iPhone. Within 30 seconds you can create a professional looking video from photos stored on your iPhone. Imagine the situation, you go out on the town and record the evening. At the end of the night you can make a 30 second video of their descent into mad drunkeness to the soundtrack of Girl’s Aloud ‘Sounds of the Underground’.

Animoto obviously realises the potential for mobile video in developing this app. Indeed mobile video is an exciting field. Take for instance Qik which allows you to stream live video from your mobile phone. Qik works on iPhone, HTC, Blackberry and many other handsets. To see a full list click here. As well as being able to stream live video, Qik is really useful if you want to upload a video quickly. As soon as you have filmed something on your mobile, it is immediately uploaded to the Qik website from there you can access the video and embed it wherever. Here’s a great little vid I made of my desk, I reckon this could win some short film awards. It definitely has a certain je ne sais quoi.

I only wish I had my wi-fi set up on my Blackberry yesterday when I saw Gordon Ramsay in LAX airport. I could have done a live video and streamed it to you my dear Omio readers. Instead I got this fairly blurry stalkery picture of him from my Blackberry.

The foul mouthed chef was bright orange and I agree with D-Listed’s assessment that he looked like a sun dried tomato. The great cook spoke to me though, pointed out an open booth as I was dawdling at the front of the queue. I just wish he told me to F-Off when I snapped him.

Expect to see Qik cropping up more in our coverage of CES, as well as some animoto vids. I want to make a montage of overweight gamblers from the casino floor. The last shot will be of me, 5 stone heavier after one too many all you can eat breakfasts.
